Starting the driving lessons

Today I had my intake test for my driving lessons. I have drived like 10 years ago but never past the exams. So today my drivingschool did a test with me to see how many hours I will need to pass the exams this time. And tatatatataaaa...... I need another 35 hours to learn how to drive..... Yup I almost learned nothing the first time around......

So now with a fresh spirit I am going to start school again and learn to drive so that all American roadtrip is becoming a true thing instead of a dream!!!

The saga continues

So, the third time is a charm. Right?!?....Wrong!
I managed to fail the test for my drivers license for the third time... And yes, I used some words that are completely inappropriate to repeat here. But life goes on, and I have some very supportive friends with whom I can make fun of me and my skills to fail :-D. Next month I'm scheduled for the fourth (and finally last?) attempt. I really, really, really, really hope I'll pass this time. 'Cause I'm looking forward to buying my first car, showing off my first car, driving my first car, transporting IKEA stuff in my own car and driving to my parents house in two hours in stead of spending four hours in public transportation. The only thing I'm going to miss about that last part is my loyal traveling companion: a tall cup of Starbucks tea or coffee, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the greater good ;-).
My friend Mara is having better luck at her quest to find a company to start her lessons. She found one and even gets an anti-skid course!
So keep your fingers crossed that I have my license sooner than her (Yep, it's almost becoming a competition), and that we soon both pass this hurdle for cruising the USA!

Becca

Yep, my drivinglessons intake is next wednesday. I hope that I won't need more then 30 lessons to get licensed. So hopefully I will have mine in another half year! I drove 2 weeks ago and it was great! So now I hope I get the same teacher for my lessons as he was a really funny older guy that was calm enough to handle me ;).

Keeping our fingers crossed!

This month my traveling Friend Becca is going for her drivers license (third try). I am really getting behind on our schedule as I still can't decide what company to start my lessons at. I have a choice of 200!!! companies....

What should I be looking for? What price do I want to pay? (Drivers lessons in the Netherlands will cost around 1700 dollars in total) and do I want a male or female to teach me.

So, could you all keep your fingers crossed that my Friend gets hers and that I will find the right company for me???

The BIGGEST obstacle

No trip is planned without problems to overcome. Most people would be thinking flying for 12 hours would be a problem or getting medication into the USA (maybe a later post) would be a big problem but no, not us....The biggest problem we are facing is not getting our finances to match our plans (also a big one). No, our biggest problem is getting our drivers licenses! Yes, a road trip without drivers licenses would be a little bit tricky ;).

I can hear you think: "What 30 year old gal doesn't have their drivers licence!". Yup, that would be us....

I started getting drivers lessons aged 18. I took like over 50 lessons but failed the practical examination. In the Netherlands it is really not an exception to fail the first time. But, I didn't have the money back then to take more lessons or to take another test. So long story short, almost 12 years later I still don't have one.

My friend in crime is already in the process of getting hers. So at least one of us will know how to drive a car ;). She has  failed her examination twice by now but still not giving up hope and she is hoping three times will be her lucky time! Yes, she can drive but has a big confidence problem when the examiner sits next to her (any tips?).

So now she has to pass her exam and I need to find a driving school to get mine and I need to do that fast too! So that will be the first 2000 dollar I spend for this amazing road trip ;).

Where it al began

Two years ago I met online with a great group of beautiful women that all had two things in common: being pagan and being attracted to head covering. Head covering has been something I have wanted to do for years and years but I never had the balls to do so until almost 2 years ago. In that group people were talking about meeting up and having a camp of some kind. Unfortunately the group fell apart after a LOT of drama and I could not see all these beautiful women again.

But the seed was planted. Going to America, what an idea. Visiting friends, seeing places I have seen on the television... I decided that if I ever wanted to go I needed to start planning soon. So I made my plans known to a good friend who saw the allure in going and wanted to come with me. We made our plans known at work (we are co-workers) and now the fun of planning this giant trip starts:

The idea:

Two dutch women, 3 months, going across the USA and visiting all the places we would want to see (and maybe, just maybe a tiny bit of Canada too). This blog is to give others an inside on our plans and our planning.

So I hope you enjoy planning with us!
